GB Academies are online or in-person international service-learning programs with a skill-based focus that supports the health and economic development objectives of community partners abroad.

What is Global Brigades?

Global Brigades is an international non-profit that uniquely implements a holistic model to meet a community’s health and economic goals. Our model systematically builds community ownership and collaboratively executes programs with the end goal of sustainably transitioning to a relationship of impact monitoring.

Our work is driven by the work of local professionals as well as groups of passionate students that mobilize abroad for positive social change. Through faculty-led student groups and individual enrollment programs, Global Brigades embarks on the largest task of all: making meaningful change on a global scale. Since 2004, we have mobilized more than 100,000 university and high school students as one of the largest empowerment initiatives to improve global health, economic, and educational outcomes in under-resourced communities.

Each faculty leader chooses a skill-based program and country to then participate with their students online or in-country alongside our local teams that work year-round to create continuity between groups. Our strong community partnerships and expert in-country staff have established an unparalleled track record for safety and program impact.

Each Squad is one critical piece of a larger system for sustainable development. Collectively, we mobilize hundreds of groups a year that fund and support a team of local development specialists to work collaboratively with community leaders to improve health, education, and economic outcomes year-round.

Each GB Academy builds upon and applies professionals skills in the areas of Health, STEM, Education and Business targeting UN Sustainable Goals in partner communities.

A GB Academy’ success transcends the impact made in the community by also transforming the world perspective of students. We help build global citizens with cultural competence and ﬁrst hand experience that help shape cultural awareness back home.

Our Academy programs are the high school division of our renowned international development organization that uniquely implements a Holistic Model that targets specific UN Sustainable Development goals within partner communities.
